Daya Shankar-Fischer, a native of India, lives at the Wellington (a long-term care facility) in Laguna Hills, CA. A professor at University of Northern Iowa, Daya earned her MA and Ph.D. graduate degrees in Philosophy and Communication from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. She published research articles in scholarly journals and also published a multicultural activity book.
Daya's teaching profession offered her the opportunity to travel. Some of her favorite trips include Italy, Ireland, England, Switzerland, Norway, Costa Rica, Spain, Mexico, Thailand and Malaysia. She retired as Professor Emeritus in 2001.
Daya keeps herself busy reading, writing, and doing humanitarian work. She supports the Native American Education Foundations. Through this program students in need receive scholarships.
