Growing up in the Midwest, Mike graduated from the University of Notre Dame, then attended Stanford Medical School, where he fell in love with California. Mike trained in surgery at Johns Hopkins, NYU Bellevue, and the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. He was a pediatric surgeon for over 40 years until Covid retired him. He and his wife lived mostly in New Jersey and Florida, until their fearless daughter was accepted at UC Santa Barbara. They followed her to California in 2017 and moved to Laguna Woods Village in 2019 where they enjoy the golf, clubs, and community.
Mike's first memoir, "Rat Sex; A Surgery Intern at Johns Hopkins," was based on a diary he kept during that amazing year 1968-1969. He has recently written a family memoir, "Lottery Winner," as part of his legacy.
