After Walker Reed graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in economics, he worked for the Colorado Economic Development Association. There he originated a demand-pull economic development program to be adapted to the entire country. The business development at CEDA created over 40 new minority businesses in three years.
In the late seventies, recalling his exposure to many art galleries while attending Laguna Beach High School, Walker created an international mail order business: "Space Art". Space Art marketed deep outer space photography and NASA planetary imaging photography throughout the world. Space Art was a feature article in the December 1982 issue of "Entrepreneur Magazine".
In the eighties Walker pioneered the concept of tenant representation in commercial office leasing for Marcus & Millichap in San Francisco.
Now retired, Walker obtained a securities license with Morgan Stanley. A.G. Edwards identified Walker as a "Rising Star" in 2000.
Walker participated extensively in Laguna Beach civic affairs. He served on the Parking, Transportation, and Circulation Citizens Ccommittees. He served as Vice President of CONA (Coalition of Neighborhood Associations), and served for three years as the Environmental Chair on the Laguna Beach Vision Planning Steering Committee. Walker founded the El Mirador neighborhood association and he was the founding president of the Laguna Beach High School Alumni Association as well as a member of Laguna Rotary and was founding secretary of the Laguna Beach Business Club.
Walker co-founded the "Laguna Ocean Foundation", a non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation of the near shore marine environment and was responsible for a citywide ordinance banning the use of polystyrene foam and non-recyclable plastic containers for restaurant carryout. Other interests include amateur astronomy, creative writing, (published "Genetic Memory"), short stories, tennis, and collecting succulents. See: www.geneticmemory.us
Walker, who has two daughters, retired to Laguna Woods to be a grandparent two times.
"I am pleased to have become a new member of the Pub Club and look forward to participating with my book "Genetic Memory" and collection of short "Ceiling Stories".
